Clippers advance to state tournament

A regional championship means the New London American Legion baseball team is headed to state.

The Clippers handed Antigo a 4-3 loss July 24 in the championship game of a Class AA regional at Hatten Stadium and will now head to the Class AA state tournament, scheduled for Friday to Tuesday, July 28 to Aug. 1, in Ashwaubenon.

New London will open the double-elimination tournament at 4:30 p.m. July 28 against Medford. Other first-round matches that day are Pulaski vs. River Falls, Holmen vs. Waupun and Fort Atkinson vs. Ashwaubenon.

The schedule for the state tournament, to be held at Ashwaubomay Memorial River Park on South Broadway Drive, is:

• Friday, July 28: Game 1 (Pulaski vs. River Falls), 9:30 a.m.; Game 2 (Holmen vs. Waupun), 12:30 p.m.; Game 3 (New London vs. Medford), 4:30 p.m.; Game 4 (Fort Atkinson vs. Ashwaubenon), 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday, July 29: Game 5 (Game 1 loser vs. Game 3 loser), 9:30 a.m.; Game 6 (Game 2 loser vs. Game 4 loser), 12:30 p.m.; Game 7 (Game 1 winner vs. Game 3 winner), 4:30 p.m.; Game 8 (Game 2 winner vs. Game 4 winner), 7:30 p.m.
