Big donation from Specialized Products

CLINTONVILLE – Thanks to a donation of $19,125 from Specialized Products, Ltd. in Clintonville, the Clintonville Police Department will be getting new pistols.
At its Jan. 14 meeting, the Clintonville Common Council accepted the $19,125 donation from Specialized Products, and approved the purchase of unbudgeted pistols from Top Rack Defense in the amount of $19,125.
Prior to the council accepting the donation, Clintonville Mayor Steve Kettenhoven said, “That’s very generous, and I’m so happy that we had somebody step up and help out.”
The donation
Christine Oestreich, owner/president of Specialized Products, outlined the $19,125 donation in a Dec. 18 letter to Mayor Kettenhoven and members of the council.

“We recognize the importance of ensuring that local enforcement is equipped with the best tools available to protect our citizens and maintain public safety,” Oestreich said in the letter. “The funds from this donation will be directed specifically towards the acquisition of firearms that will further enhance the department’s capabilities in serving the Clintonville community.
“Specialized Products, Ltd. has long dedicated to corporate social responsibility, and we believe that investing in the safety of our community is one of the most impactful ways we can contribute. It is our hope that his donation will support the department’s mission and help ensure the continued safety of Clintonville residents.”
New firearms
In a memo from Clintonville Police Chief Craig Freitag to members of the Clintonville Finance Committee and City Council, Freitag said the firearms the department are currently using were purchased in 2012. Those firearms were purchased with donated funds from Specialized Products.
“This donation was quite a surprise, and we can’t thank the Oestreich family enough for their continued support of the police department over the years,” Freitag said in the memo.
Freitag added that new pistols for the department are in the city’s 2029 capital budget. But with this donation, the new pistols can be removed from the 2029 capital budget.
It was stated in the memo that with the donation, the department plans to purchase 17 Shadow System pistols from Top Pack Defense in Sun Prairie. Top Pack Defense is one of three authorized dealers of Shadow System guns able to sell to law enforcement departments.
