NEW LONDON – Residents of the city of New London will help choose a new slogan for the city.
For the past few months, the city has been working on the creation of a new city slogan, and the top seven suggested slogans were presented to the New London Economic Development Committee at its June 24 meeting.
Per the committee’s previous recommendation, Katie Hopkins, the video and marketing producer for the city of New London, said she released a social media video asking for input regarding different city slogan ideas from the community.
“We did have a pretty good response for that,” Hopkins said. “We got maybe 10, 15 people responding, but with multiple examples of slogans.”
Hopkins said she also obtained slogan ideas from two high school classes at New London High School.
“We had really good brainstorming sessions for that,” Hopkins said.
City department heads and city staff narrowed the list of slogans to the top seven.
The top seven slogan ideas were shared with the committee. They included:
• Small Town, Big Welcome
• Where the River Leads Home
• Give Your Adventure Roots
• Wisconsin’s Hometown on the Wolf
• Halfway to Everywhere, Right Where You Belong
• On The River, Flowing with Pride
• Where the Wolf Flows, Community Grows
After the committee members were presented with the top seven slogan ideas, they were allowed to vote for their top three slogans in order to narrow it down to three finalists. The three finalists will be voted on by city residents.
Hopkins was asked how the winning slogan would be utilized.
The winning slogan will be used on the city sign that is viewable when people enter the city on Highway 15, Hopkins said, adding that the slogan would be most used in future marketing campaigns. This could include commercials, billboards, and social media posts.
“Anything to build up to economically develop the city, or attract people to live here, attract people to just to come to events here, or anything like that,” Hopkins said.
Clintonville City Administrator Chad Hoerth told the committee that the top slogan chosen by city residents will come back to the committee for approval, and will then need to be approved by the New London Common Council as well.
The top three slogans chosen by the committee included:
• Where the Wolf Flows, Community Grows
• Where the River Leads Home
• Small Town, Big Welcome
Hoerth told the New London Press Star that the city is still working on the details on how city residents will be allowed to vote for their favorite slogan.
“We’re looking at several in-person opportunities and maybe some type of email opportunity,” Hoerth said in an e-mail.
He added, “We want to really hear and get feedback from people who actually live in the community.”
