Newey, Carl

Posted

Carl B. Newey, (67), of Downers Grove, IL, passed peacefully on March 14, 2025, in Waupaca, WI after a long battle with heart failure surrounded by his loving son and daughter.

Carl was born on December 15, 1957, to Carl T. Newey and Arden S. Newey in Chicago, IL.

He attended Valparaiso University in IN where he received a B.A. in Business Administration. After graduating, Carl briefly worked for the US Post Office and then started his own bait, tackle and taxidermy business. He was an avid outdoorsman with fishing being his favorite pastime.

Carl was also a talented athlete and received varsity letters in wrestling and cross country as well as wrestled collegiately. He enjoyed spending his free time coaching wrestling in IL and WI and taught his own son how to wrestle.

Carl’s faith in the Lord was strong. He regularly attended church, quoted scripture, and kept up with missionaries’ work in the field. He was also an amateur artist and tried his hand at painting in a variety of mediums, with watercolors being his favorite, and did photography too.

Carl’s loving spirit is carried on by his children, Amy (Jonathan) and Carl Christopher (Morgan); his grandchildren, Olivia, Theo, Evelyn and Hattie; his brother, Mark and his sister, Ann (Johnny); along with his nieces and nephews Courtney (Jon), Lauren, Nicole, and Tyler; and great-nieces and great-nephew, Abigail, Katelyn, Bella, and Eli. Preceding him in peace were his parents, Carl Timothy and Arden.

To honor Carl’s memory, a celebration of life will be held at a later date at his lake cottage with close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in Carl's name.
