It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved wife and mother.
Phyllis Audrey (Trinrud) Nygaard passed away on Monday October 2, 2023 at St. Josephs – Monarch Meadows in New London, WI.
Phyllis was born on October 3, 1936 in the Town of Farmington, Sheridan, WI to Palma (Riste) and Alvin Trinrud. She was the youngest of 3 children. She attended Sheridan Grade School and graduated from Scandinavia Union Free High School. After graduation she worked at Hardware Mutual Insurance Company in Stevens Point. She later worked as a bookkeeper at Fullerton Lumber Company in Waupaca.
She met the love of her life Phillip Eugene Nygaard, at the Scandinavia Community Hall after a basketball game where she was a cheerleader. He had just returned from active duty in Germany with the US Army. They married on September 8, 1956 at Farmington Lutheran Church. Together they had four children, Jim, Karen, Joni and John. After the children were born, she used her bookkeeping skills to keep the farm records and helped with milking cows and feeding calves. She enjoyed gardening – both vegetables and flowers, but particularly roses. Phyllis loved music and singing, especially worship songs because of her love for the Lord. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed passing on the Norwegian traditions to her children and grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than doing things for her family. Phyllis was also active as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, 4-H general Leader and Waupaca County Homemakers (quilting and sewing). She later worked as an Election Clerk in Scandinavia for many years.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Phillip. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last month. By her children: Jim (Nancy) Nygaard, Karen (Derril) Cady, Joni (David) Quale and John (Mary Halada) Nygaard. By her grandchildren: Melissa (Sam) Egdorf, Joshua Cady, Luke (Alyssa) Nygaard, Logan Nygaard, Nicole (Forest) Nett, Anna Quale and Elise Quale. By her great grandchildren Aubrey Egdorf, Sadie Egdorf, Liam Nett, Isaac Nygaard, Greyson Nett, Evelyn Nett and Caleb Nygaard. By her sisters and brothers-in-law: Beverly Nygaard, Valerie Nygaard, Robert Nygaard and Kelly McKenzie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by an infant daughter Kristi Kay, by parents Alvin and Palma Trinrud and Carl and Sadie Nygaard. By sisters and brothers and in-laws: Arlene and Leroy Christensen, Leland and Alice Trinrud, Dolores Knutson, David Nygaard, Duane Nygaard and Judy Nygaard.
The family would like to thank the staff at Monarch Meadows in New London for the exceptional love and care provided to Phyllis while she was a resident there this past year. We would also like to thank the staff at Garden Park in Waupaca for the love and care she received there prior.
