Maxine Oquist, age 88, of Waupaca, WI.

“Maxine” is derived from a Latin word which means “The Greatest”, and as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she was. Maxine was born on June 11, 1932, the fourth of five children of John and Helen King of Menomonie, WI. As a child, she met Jesus and loved him ‘til the end of her life. After graduating high school, Maxine attended college. Upon graduation and still single, she left all she knew for Juneau, Alaska to take care of children at an orphanage. Throughout her life, she passionately loved to care for children. In 1959, she married the man of her dreams, Lud Oquist. They soon had three children, Joanna, Dale and Diane. Her gifts included hospitality, cooking, music, and appreciation of beauty.

The last few years of her life were spent in the care of people who loved her at Bethany Home in Waupaca. On February 2, 2021, she met her Savior face to face.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Lud; her three children: Joanna (Greg) Kalyvas, Diane (John) Nash, and Dale (Joni) Oquist. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren: Marissa, Andrew, Lauren, Anna, DJ, James, Dawson (two adopted grandsons Justin and Andrew Robert), three great-grandchildren and her sister, Lois Molitor, and countless friends, family and others who loved her. Waiting to meet her as she entered heaven were her mother and father, John and Helen King, her sisters, Jean Reiser and Shirley Kennedy, and her brother Jerry King.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 at First Assembly of God Church in Waupaca, WI. The service will be at 2 p.m.; visitation from noon - 2 p.m. at the church, 1420 Berlin St, Waupaca. Any monetary gifts will be directed to missions efforts through First Assembly of God, Waupaca. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
