An early 20-point deficit hurt the Waupaca girls’ basketball team Dec. 11 in its North Eastern Conference matchup with Oconto Falls.
The Panthers connected on 13 three-pointers – seven of them from Kathryn Raddatz – and held the Comets to nine points in the second half in a 71-29 win at Oconto Falls High School.
The Comets also dropped recent conference games to Freedom and Marinette.
Six three-pointers helped Oconto Falls build a 22-2 lead in the first half.
Waupaca chipped away at the lead and eventually cut it to 26-16, but the Panthers ended the half with a 13-4 run to take a 39-20 lead at the break.
The Panthers added to their lead by outscoring the Comets 32-9 over the final 18 minutes.
Hailey Bechard led Waupaca with nine points, while Raddatz led all players with 23.

The Comets nearly knocked off the Irish, a team that headed to Waupaca High School with a 4-1 record.
Freedom outscored Waupaca 27-17 in the first half, but the Comets had an 18-9 advantage in the second half.
Bechard led all scorers with 18 points.
Avery Lang led Freedom with 12.
Marinette stayed undefeated in conference play.
The Marines led 35-21 at halftime.
Rossi Wehmeyer and Bechard led the Comets with 14 and 11 points, respectively, while Marinette’s Riley Kieffer led Marinette with 27.
The Comets will host New London Thursday, Dec. 14, for a nonconference matchup before returning to conference play Tuesday, Dec. 19, at home against Little Chute.
