Papermakers top Polar Bears

Hortonville drops home game

Two of the Fox Valley Association’s top baseball teams met for the second time this season and for the second time, Kimberly picked up a win over Hortonville.

The Papermakers headed to Hortonville’s Commercial Club Park May 18 and returned home with a 9-4 win over the Polar Bears.

Hortonville opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second inning, but Kimberly answered with a run in the third.

The Polar Bears regained the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth before the Papermakers took the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning.

Hortonville answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, but Kimberly added to its lead with two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Nathan Vela had two hits and drove in two runs for the Polar Bears; Joe Fischer hit a solo home run; Camden Kuhnke had two hits; and Brett Sommer drove in a run.

Brayden Pleau led Kimberly at the plate with four hits, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Hortonville fell to 13-2 in the FVA and 16-4 overall, while Kimberly improved to 15-1 in the FVA and 19-4 overall.
