West De Pere pitchers Cole Nelson and Jordan Strick challenged the Bulldogs’ offense Thursday, May 12, in a pair of games the Bulldogs lost 3-0 and 6-2.
“With the exception of a couple of innings, I thought that we pitched fairly well and made some really nice plays on defense,” Frederick said. “Jake Hoier pitched an outstanding six innings in the first game. Matt Wunderlich and Kyle Wolf both had a great night on defense. The problem is that our hitters really struggled against their pitching. Both of West DePere’s pitchers had very good curveballs that they could throw for strikes and so we had a tough time stringing enough hits together to score runs.”
Frederick said West De Pere is one of the premier baseball programs in Wisconsin that New London strives to be like. He gave credit to West De Pere’s pitching, defense and aggressive base running.
In game two, the game the Bulldogs scored, Austin Hanson and Will Wohlt batted in Brayden Kurth and Tylan Brown. Hanson and Remington Steele each contributed a hit and Wohlt went two for three.
“I was happy with how our kids kept battling throughout both games,” Frederick said. “We have great senior leadership this year. Tylan Brown, Matt Wunderlich, and Alex Amador have been awesome role models for the younger players and it has been a pleasure to have them on the team.”
