Picket signs for maternity care

Protesters against ThedaCare's birthing unit closure

Posted

WAUPACA - Waupaca protestors traveled to Neenah to picket outside of the ThedaCare corporate office on Friday, Jan. 24. They are hoping ThedaCare will not close its labor and delivery unit in Waupaca. The hospital is slated to discontinue its maternity care services on Feb. 15.

The group Save Waupaca Labor & Delivery is hosting a fundraising concert called “Music for Moms.” They are starting a fund for mothers that need support for traveling for farther-away maternal care. They are also partnering with midwives to get those funds for mothers in need. The concert will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. at the live-music venue Q&Z Expo Center in Ringle (a small town east of Wausau). The band line-up is Szilenze, Apex Aura and Waupaca’s very own hard-rocking Hellfire Club.
