Polar Bears pick up two more wins

The Polar Bears earned two more conference wins last week, posting victories over Oshkosh North and Neenah. The two wins pushed Hortonville's conference record to 15-2. They now own sole possession of first place after Kimberly (14-3) lost to Appleton North last week.


Hortonville 47, Neenah 32


On senior night, the Bears honored Maddie Dunathan, Kaila Peterson, Olivia Baehman, Sydney Coenen and Sarah Huebner. The five seniors started the game and got the team off to a 15-5 lead after one quarter.


Hortonville was outscored 11-10 in the second quarter but still held a 25-16 lead at halftime.


The Bears earned a 14-11 advantage in the third quarter and put the game away by outscoring Neenah 8-5 in the final frame to preserve a 15-point win.


Hortonville made 16 of 45 shots (35 percent) including 4 of 17 from 3-point range (23 percent) and 11 of 17 from the free throw line (64 percent).


Dunathan and Lexy Campshure both scored nine points to lead Hortonville. Shay Frederick added eight, Gabby McKeever netted six, Jenna Jalling contributed five, Morgan Allen dropped in four, and Peterson, Emma Kloes, and Coenen all scored two.


Hortonville 55, Oshkosh North 44


The Polar Bears started fast and finished strong to earn a 55-44 win over the Oshkosh North Spartans on Tuesday, Feb. 10.


Hortonville led 12-9 after one quarter but the score was tied, 22-22, at halftime.


The Polar Bears earned a 10-7 scoring advantage in the third quarter to regain the lead and then put the game away by outscoring the Spartans 23-15 in the fourth quarter.


Hortonville hit 13 of 37 shots (35 percent) including 3 of 17 from 3-point range (17 percent) and 26 of 32 from the free throw line (81 percent). The team also gathered 30 rebounds, dished out six assists, blocked four shots and committed 18 turnovers.


Dunathan scored 20 points to lead Hortonville. Allen added 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Frederick contributed nine points. Jalling and Huebner both dropped in six points, and Campshure added four points.
