Polar Bears win FVA softball games

Hortonville finishes fifth in standings

The Hortonville softball team wrapped up its Fox Valley Association schedule with recent wins over Oshkosh North and Appleton East.

The Polar Bears finished fifth in the FVA with a 10-8 record. Kaukauna won the conference championship with an 18-0 mark, followed by Oshkosh West (15-3), Kimberly (12-5), Neenah (12-6), Hortonville (10-8), Fond du Lac (7-11), Appleton East and Oshkosh North (5-13), Appleton North (4-13) and Appleton West (1-17).

Hortonville 12, Oshkosh North 3

The Polar Bears came up with all the runs they needed in the first two innings May 18, as they scored three times in each frame.

Oshkosh North cut the lead in half with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth, but the Polar Bears answered with six runs in the fifth.

Paige Lillie held the Patriots without a hit May 16.

Hortonville scored four runs in the second inning and two more in the fifth.

Mara Hedtke hit a two-run home run for Hortonville.
