MENASHA - Norbert William Pomerenke, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Oak Park Place. He was born on April 17, 1929 at home in the Town of Belmont, Wisconsin to the late Henry William and Verna Mae (Pike) Pomerenke. The eldest of 12 siblings, Norbert dedicated his life to family and service. He began working on local farms at a young age and joined the Waupaca County Asylum in 1949, where he met his beloved wife, Ruth. Norbert served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 before marrying Ruth on July 18, 1953, with whom he raised six children. Norbert retired in 1990, following a long career at Kimberly Clark. He continued working various part-time jobs, including driving a school bus for 54 years, until the age of 84. A passionate gardener, he tended to his vegetable and flower gardens, but especially his cannas. Norbert was active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Menasha, serving on several boards and contributed to the church’s upkeep. His strong faith guided him throughout his life. Norbert is survived by his children Susan (David) Acaley, Marian (William) Fenlon and Janine Heid, David (Carmela) Pomerenke, Douglas (Mary Ellen) Pomerenke and Ronald Pomerenke. He is further survived by fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and siblings LeRoy (Martha) Pomerenke, Donavin Pomerenke, Beverly Dunbar and Darlene Thomas. Norbert was proceeded in death by his wife Ruth, his parents, grandson Mark Acaley and siblings Duane Pomerenke, Leslie Pomerenke, Dwight Pomerenke, Neil Pomerenke, Wesley Pomerenke, Doris Corbin and Alfred Pomerenke. Funeral Services for Norbert will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 Broad St. in Menasha, WI at 11:00 am with Reverend Keith GeRue officiating. Family and friends are invited to visit directly at the church beginning at 9:00 am until the time of service. Entombment will take place Appleton Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:30 pm, following military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Day School or Trinity Lutheran Food Pantry.
