Priest arrested for child sex crimes

CLINTONVILLE – The Clintonville Police Department received a tip that a 37-year-old man from Madison was traveling to Clintonville to meet a 14-year old girl for sexual activity. They arrested him on Aug. 24 at 7:32 p.m. He was identified as Andrew J. Showers, a Catholic priest, and he was booked at the Waupaca County Jail on charges of child enticement, use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime and attempted second-degree sexual assault of a child.
Showers is a parochial vicar at the St. James School and the director of the Office of Worship in the Diocese of Madison. He was ordained in 2017.
The Clintonville police worked with the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation Mid-States Organized Crime Information Center and the Madison Police Department to make the arrest.
The Waupaca County District Attorney’s Office has the investigative reports of the case and Showers will be charged soon.
