Pumpkin Palooza returns to downtown

NEW LONDON — Downtown New London is about to be transformed into a pumpkin-filled Halloween celebration as Pumpkin Palooza returns Saturday, October 17 from 4–6 p.m. This year’s event is bigger, more interactive and packed with more family fun.

Hosted by ThedaCare and facilitated by the New London Area Chamber of Commerce, Pumpkin Palooza brings businesses, schools, organizations and community partners together to create a completely free family event throughout downtown New London.

“What makes Pumpkin Palooza so special is how many different parts of our community come together to make it happen,” said April Kopitzke, Executive Director of the New London Area Chamber of Commerce. “Our schools, businesses, city departments, organizations, students and volunteers are all bringing something different to the event. Families are going to be able to walk through downtown and find something happening everywhere they turn. We can’t wait for people to see what we have planned this year!”

Two giant pumpkins will be making their Pumpkin Palooza debut and attendees will have the chance to check out these massive pumpkins, guess their weight and enter for a chance to win.

Students, staff and school groups of the School District of New London are hosting a Trunk-or-Treat and pumpkin painting.

Ashley Ellis of Ellis Visual Art will be joining Pumpkin Palooza with a mini pumpkin canvas painting opportunity, giving children the chance to create a festive piece of fall artwork to take home.

The New London Parks & Recreation Department is bringing a mini carnival downtown and families can stop by for carnival-style games and activities.

The New London Area Chamber of Commerce will be serving up a caramel apple bar where guests can create a delicious fall treat with all the fixings.

There will be wagon rides and families and pets can dress up, explore downtown, visit participating businesses and organizations, collect treats, enjoy Halloween activities and discover surprises around every corner.
