Brent Wiersma from Moondance Meadows and librarian Sue Vater Olsen will present a rain garden workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, in the rain garden between the Scandinavia Public Library and the river.
They will discuss what a rain garden is designed for, the difference between native and non-native plants, what invasive plants are, and attempt to answer gardening questions.
Hands-on activities will include plant identification and making plant markers from aluminum cans.
Attendees should bring a shady hat and sunscreen (there is very little shade in the garden area), and water to drink.
Optional items include gardening gloves, kneeling pad, lawn chair or blanket to sit upon, needle nose pliers, and an aluminum can or two.
The library will not be open for business during this special event.
