CAP Services will hold a silent walk at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, in front of the Waupaca Area Public Library to raise awareness of domestic violence.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event will recognize the 2023 victims of homicide due to domestic violence in Wisconsin, feature aa survivor’s story, and close with a silent walk to honor victims and survivors.
Wisconsin experienced a record number of homicides and suicides related to domestic violence in 2022, according to a report by End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin.
The advocacy group has reported on domestic violence since 2000.
There were 96 deaths related to domestic violence in 2022.
Of these homicides, 12% were children under the age of 18. The youngest victim was only 4 weeks old.
