Sawyer elected president of state bar

STEVENS POINT—Stephen W. Sawyer, of Sawyer Law LLC in Stevens Point, has been elected president-elect of the State Bar of Wisconsin. He will begin his term on July 1, 2025, and will serve as president beginning in July 2026.
Sawyer plans to focus on rural attorney shortages, increased public funding for legal services, and efforts to restore public trust in the legal system.
“There are many areas of our state where lawyers are retiring at rates that far surpass the rate at which new lawyers are entering practice,” Sawyer said. “I believe that new approaches must be explored and robust efforts must be made toward finding effective incentives for new and existing lawyers to establish practices in smaller communities.”
