The northwoods lost a very special man on July 10, 2024 due to complications from a fall.
Ed Schimke was born to Edward and Emma Schimke on August 17, 1949 in New London, Wisc. He was the youngest child of a family of twelve children. Ed and Cathy moved to Winter approximately 45 years ago. He was very hard working and took pride in everything he did. He was proud of his service to his country in the USMC. He served from May 1, 1968 to February 1, 1972 and did a tour in Viet Nam.
Ed is survived by his wife Cathy, five sisters Joyce Handschke, New London; Eunice Rettinger, Downers Grove, IL; Dolores Samz, Milwaukee; Emily Wolfarth, Milwaukee and Karen Laux, Weyauwega; one brother Wayne, New London as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by one brother-in-law Richard (Cathy) Slayton and a sister-in-law Sue (Craig) Taylor and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Orland, Wilmer and Lyle.
To honor Ed’s wishes, there will be no services.
