An exploratory group led by Wally Gibbs and Mike Koles made the request during the board's May 9 meeting.
"It's about solving problems and helping each other to succeed," Gibbs stated. "We're focusing on solutions and moving forward. We're all going the same direction."
Koles presented the proposed guidelines and goals of the committee. He said the purpose of the committee would be to "provide advice to the board in a very public setting."
Having CAC does not "prevent action by any other group," Koles stated.
The committee's first priority is to focus on the budget, Koles said. The second priority is to develop bylaws, including value statements.
He asked the board to take formal action to support CAC or give informal encouragement to the committee's formation.
"I certainly encourage you to go ahead," stated Tom Opperman, board president.
CAC will hold a formation meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2. Anyone interested in serving on the committee should attend. The location of the meeting will be determined at a later date. For information, call Gibbs at 715-445-5789 during the day.
Youth baseball program
Rick Hanson made a request for the youth baseball program to be included under the school's insurance when they play on the school's field. Currently, the program pays about $650 for liability insurance when they use the field for tournaments.
Hanson has been running the youth baseball program for the past five years. "We've been making good money doing it and everything we make goes back to the community," he said.
According to Hanson, the youth program has donated money toward adding dirt to the girls softball field, they ordered a plastic cover for Thunderbird Field, and they donated jackets to the I-S football team.
"It's all about giving back to our sports programs," Hanson stated.
Opperman determined that the matter will be discussed by the Buildings and Grounds Committee.
Reorganizational meeting
At the reorganizational meeting held prior to the board meeting, there were no changes in board officer positions. The board voted Tom Opperman as president, Colleen Sykes as clerk, and Bill Peterson as treasurer. Charlie Wasrud was selected as vice president to replace Randy Frye, who was not re-elected to the board.
Committee appointments will be announced at the board's special meeting at 9 p.m. Monday, May 23.
Finance Committee
At the Finance Committee meeting held prior to the board meetings, Susan Molden made a comparison of I-S administrative salaries with "randomly selected schools on the same page" from the Department of Public Instruction's website. She called for the board to "freeze Joe Price's salary indefinitely" and "bring (the) fitness and aquatic center director's salary into line."
She stated that the FAC director's pay would be enough to "keep a teacher in the classroom, keep a program alive.
"Do not be bamboozled by the district administrator," she warned the board. "Correct your mistakes - we're watching you!"
