School liaison officer MOU approved

First time approved in several years

CLINTONVILLE – For the first time in several years, the Clintonville Board of Education has approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the district’s police school liaison officer.

The board approved the MOU when it met Aug. 24.

During the discussion, Clintonville Superintendent Troy Kuhn told the board that the police school liaison officer MOU is supposed to be approved each year, but hasn’t been approved since he became superintendent of the district. He said he has reviewed the MOU with Clintonville City Administrator Craig Moser, Clintonville Police Chief Craig Freitag, and the crossing guards.

In addition, Kuhn said he compared the MOU to the MOU that Weyauwega-Fremont has.

Board member Christopher Hoffmann asked if the district would now be in compliance to use Fund 80 funds to cover the costs of the school liaison officer.

“I’m going to say this, we’re more compliant,” Kuhn said. “We’re still compliant if it got challenged, but this is more compliant. …From my research, we are more compliant than everybody else around us. Not saying that’s a good answer, but now it’s even more clean.”

Board Clerk Laurie Vollrath asked if the district needs more than one school liaison officer.

Kuhn said he did not feel the district needs more than one school liaison officer.

“I think the Clintonville Police Department in general does a great job of being visible,” Kuhn said.

Language regarding programming was added to the previously approved MOU. The added language states, “Programming and education shall be consistent with the needs of the district and community.” Language was also added that indicated programming and education shall be offered to Clintonville area students both public and private.

The MOU also requires the city of Clintonville to supply the district with “updated financial information as it pertains to the PSLO position” after the city’s annual budget is approved.
