Jocelyn Trzebiatowski

SPASH

Wrapping up a fantastic high school career in the pool at the WIAA State championship swim meet was a rewarding way for Jocelyn Trzebiatowski to finish her senior season.

She was a key piece of both the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay teams for the Stevens Point Panthers that competed in Waukesha on Nov. 16.

Jocelyn started her journey in her sport earlier than most. Her parents, Wendy and Lance, enrolled her in YMCA swimming lessons as a baby. Before long, Jocelyn joined the swim team at the tender age of four.

“My parents always ensure my brother (Evan) and I are involved in various activities. They enrolled me in swimming lessons at the YMCA as a basic skill, but I joined the club team, and my love for swimming grew.”

A 13-time Wisconsin Valley Conference champion, Jocelyn credits her diligent work ethic as an advantage.

“On the pool deck, my biggest asset is being a hard worker. When you’re a determined athlete, it often rubs off on others. Having a good mindset and giving it your all makes the whole pool deck a better place.”

Jocelyns’ determination shows while balancing swimming and her studies, “Keeping up in school has never particularly been an issue, but it’s important to speak up when falling behind. Teachers at SPASH are very supportive when it comes to balancing sports and class work. The workload during my current senior year is certainly heavier than my freshman year, however, reaching out for help is always an option when I’m struggling.”

Time with her team has been a part of Jocelyns’ personal growth. “ I feel extremely proud of myself. Swimming has assisted me in becoming an outgoing, persevering athlete and person. Sports, in general, foster teamwork skills and support others, which I have also been able to apply in my life at school and work.”

Coach Maggie Reilly has prepared Jocelyn for her time in the pool and life after high school. “Coach Maggie Reilly has been one of the few coaches who truly pushed me in athletics.

I have never felt more supported by a coach than her. She is always happy to hear about the things I’m doing in my life and is always there for me when I need advice. She pushes her athletes in the pool and helps them become better people. Coach Reilly coached me during my seventh-grade year during junior high season and then returned in my sophomore season. I will certainly miss her after being done with high school swim.”
