Sockett Sr., Scott

Posted

Scott Sockett Sr., age 70 passed away on August 17, 2023 at his home.

Scott was born on October 13, 1952, in Milwaukee, WI to Anna and Forrester Sockett.

Scott spent his career as an operator with the New London Public Works Department for 30 plus years.

He loved the outdoors, which drew him to New London as a young man in the 1970s. He plied the waters of the Wolf River running setlines, fishing cane poles and hunting deer.

Scott was an athlete. Tall and stout, his reach over home plate baffled many a pitchers in the over under 30, softball championship nights. He was a weapon in the infield too, making doubles regularly left, right, from shortstop and second. He loved the game.

He was Scott Sockett, an uncle, a dad, a grandpa and more. “Rocket” they called him at the bait shop.

He had a true rare sense of humor yet he kept his humility free. Scott had a generous heart.

As he aged, he fished vicariously through others and celebrated their successes as if they were his own. He was a silent supporter of all people, especially the poor.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents Anna and Forester Sockett, a son, Michael S.Sockett, and brother Robert “Bob” Sockett.

He is survived by his son Scott Michael Sockett II, a grandson Braiden Sockett, brothers and sisters Paul, Carol, Donna and Lynn, as well as numerous friends’ nieces and nephews.

Scott will forever be remembered by the ‘old timers’ on the Wolf River and at the Pantry Café in New London. A celebration of life for Scott will be held at a future date.
