With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Nila Rose Sommer.
She passed away on Tuesday, June 4 at TouchMark Senior Living, Appleton WI.
She was born on May 10, 1928 to Roy and Elizabeth (Hanselman) Diley. Nila graduated from Washington High School in New London. After graduation she worked for Geenens Department store as a cashier, then at Integrity Mutual Insurance Company and Appleton State Bank, Dale. She married Adrian Ewalt Sommer on November 5, 1949 at United Congregational Church in Dale. Adrian preceded her in death on February 16, 2018. Nila worked side by side with her husband in the family business Service Motor Company while also managing to raise their four children. Nila and Adrian traveled to numerous worldwide locations through their business. Together they enjoyed their fishing, snowmobiling, and many trips up north with their children.
After retirement she and Adrian moved to their home on Virgin Lake in Three Lakes. She enjoyed her flower gardens, reading, and crocheting. Her children and grandchildren have afghans made by grandma. She will be remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness to others. Always making the extra effort for family and friends. She had a quiet personality and a big heart.
Nila is survived by son James (Marie) Sommer; daughter LuAnn (Bill) Stern; daughter in law Kathy Beyer; grandchildren Kimberlee Sommer, Kara Sommer, Kevin (Rachel) Sommer, Kent (Amanda Bilkie) Sommer, Kyle (Nicole) Sommer, Korey Sommer, Kristen (Kurt) Wondra, Ted (Melissa) Sommer, Todd (Rachael) Sommer, Tim (Cindy) Sommer, Tina (Nathan) Miller, Matt (Alicia) Stern and Mike (Kari) Stern along with numerous great grandchildren.
Nila is preceded in death her husband Adrian; mother and father; her sons Thomas and Tony; grandson Anton Thomas Stern; her daughter-in-law Kay; brother and sister-in-law Warren and Mabel Diley; sister-in-law Phyllis Diley; sisters and brothers-in-law Virginia and Norman Julius, Valeria (Jean) and Kenneth Fredricks
The Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London with Rev. Kevin Dembinski officiating. The visitation will take place from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Dale Union Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caring staff at TouchMark, Heartland Hospice, and Acension NP Donna Hawley. We so appreciate the loving care and kindness you gave Nila. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity.
