Soper, Richard

Posted

Richard “Dickie” Soper, of Amherst, age 83, passed away of natural causes, on Friday, December 27, 2024, after a sizable family gathering.  He was born in Stevens Point on July 14, 1941 to the late Harry and Eva (Wurtinger) Soper. He married Julia Hotchkiss on July 28, 1962. Dickie was a laborer and union member for his working career.  Dickie had many friends, from Hurley to Waupaca. He was a very social person. He loved to share all the goodies from his garden with everyone.

He enjoyed doing sign-ins and trying his luck on Packer pools. His cabin in Hurley was one of his favorite places to go. He and Julia would go there for weeks at a time. They could fish all day. If the weather was bad, they could sit and watch nature out of the big picture window, enjoying the warmth from the wood stove in the cabin. He enjoyed hunting and the search for the “big buck”. Even when his mobility became limited, he would continue the hunt from the bathroom window.

After Julia’s passing, he assumed the duties of bird and deer watching out the dining room picture window. Always making sure they were well provided for. Dickie’s kind and loving spirit will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.

He will be missed by his children: Rick (Terri) Soper; Anita (Bill) Thompson and Jeff (Maureen) Soper; grandchildren: Nikki and Julia, Cassie and Cody; eight great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia, granddaughter, Amanda; brothers, Johnny, Jim, Harry Jr. “Buck”, Tom and sister, Dorothy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Maple Crest Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
