STEVENS POINT—The Stevens Point Fire Department (SPFD) issued a statement expressing their apologies for the unexpected activation of the outdoor warning sirens on June 23. They wrote, “The sirens were sounded as part of routine maintenance and a system upgrade, but due to an oversight, a public notice was not issued in advance.”
The SPFD further explained the sirens were part of a system test for maintenance purposes, but are reviewing communication procedures for future tests so that the public is aware of the sirens in advance.
