SPASH opens remodeled tennis courts

Posted

STEVENS POINT — Stevens Point Area Senior High held a ribbon-cutting event at the newly remodeled tennis courts on Sept. 10. The event featured remarks from SPASH Girls and Boys Tennis team members and welcomed the community to try out the new courts.
The redevelopment started in April when the old courts were removed. Since then, Rettler Corporation and Findorff have transformed the space. The courts have been resurfaced, new nets set in place, asphalt walkways paved and chain-link fencing and gates installed. Once the concrete playing surfaces were fully cured, the surface was shot blasted and the courts were surfaced with green and blue coatings.
“With the boys team taking second place this past season at sectionals, it’s safe to say that our next year will be very ambitious,” said Carson Slowinski, SPASH senior. “The new courts can be our breath of fresh air for the next season. The boys are beyond excited to be back on the prowl.”
After the ribbon cutting ceremony, attendees were invited to join the SPASH Girls Tennis team for open court.
“We have loved playing on these courts this past month and have been playing a lot of tennis on them in hopes that we can win conference,” said Lily Meeks, SPASH senior.
“We’re not just building for our varsity team,” said Superintendent Cory Hirsbrunner. “We’re building for every student. These new, state-of-the-art courts will be used by our physical education classes, they’ll be a resource for our youth programs, and they’ll be a source of pride for everyone who walks through this campus.”
