The state fire marshal is investigating a fire that broke out on Clintonville’s Main Street Wednesday night.
Firefighters were called out to the upper apartments on 49 S. Main St. above Doesn’t Compute computer shop and Main Street Tattoos at approximately 8:20 p.m. Oct. 19.
Three people were injured during the fire, including two victims who were airlifted to Milwaukee according to Clintonville Area Ambulance Director of Operations Andy Werth.
Werth did not know the conditions of the victims.
One firefighter was treated on the scene.
The fire was deemed under control at 10 p.m., but departments stayed to put out hot spots. Clintonville fire units returned to the station around 2 a.m. Thursday, according to Assistant Fire Chief Andy Beggs.
Beggs said the department acted quickly to contain the blaze.
“We had a very quick response after getting the call,” Beggs said. “We initially knocked the fire down from the outside to the main entry to the apartments and finished extinguishment form the interior.”
Fire departments from Clintonville, Embarrass, Marion, Manawa, Bear Creek and Stella were on the scene as well as the Clintonville Ambulance.
The apartment was described by Beggs as one of the oldest buildings on Main Street, and the cause of the fire is unknown.
The investigation is still ongoing.
