Steinberg, Roger

Roger Steinberg was born on March 23, 1937,

in the township of Caledonia, to Alfred and Iona (Reinert) Steinberg. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in the township of Caledonia. He went to a one room schoolhouse, known as Sandy Knoll, for all eight years until 1951. He graduated in 1955 from Washington High School in New London. He was actively engaged in farming his entire life. He had many interests through out his life. He was active in 4-H, served as President and Reporter for Sandy Knoll 4-H and for the New London FFA as a Reporter. He was a very active person helping fellow neighbors. He served his township for 23 years as a Supervisor 2. Also 10 years as President of the New London Rural Fire Department. He helped Rawhide during car auctions and to help raise funds. He was honored in 2000 as a century farm but due to illness could not attend the presentation.

His interests were fishing and wildlife in general. As he was a great promoter of wildlife habitat, as he created lots of different habitats. He had a great value for his woodlands, for which he took good care of it. Especially for all the logs he sawed for his own lumber. He also had a great interest in hunting whitetail deer. Of which he shot many, including a 229 lb. buck, with a 16 ½ antler spread. He was a good hunter in general with other wildlife. Including ducks, geese, pheasants, squirrels and grouse.

One of Roger’s greatest moments was getting a framed picture with Bart Starr, with his arm around him. Plus, meeting other Packer players such as Donald Driver and Reggie White. He enjoyed his trips up north to Newald, WI, where he was a landowner, with his friends. He also took trips out East to Washington, DC and New York. His favorite trip was to Alaska for 2 weeks. He had been to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and many states to the west. He has taken many trips to northern Wisconsin, including Madeline Island, Al Capone hideout and to see the world record muskie in Hayward, WI.

He married the love of his life Sharon Borree on May 22, 1965. They had 4 daughters, Susan Steinberg, Kathy (Robert) Hein, Karen (Vic) Jaras and Barb Steinberg. With whom he instilled the value of hard work, as he worked hard his entire life. He has a great love for his grandchildren, Ben and Kassi Hein.

Roger is survived by his wife, 4 daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, sister-in law June Steinberg, bother-in-law Ken Borree, sister-in-law Lois (Melvin) Lendt, bother-in-law Darold (Cheryl) Borree, sister-in-law Betty (John) Pogrant, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, sister Gloria, 2 brothers Leslie and Neal, sister-in-law Pat Steinberg, Sharon’s parents, Walter and Caroline Borree, sister-in-law Carol Borree, brother-in-law David (Sharon) Borree, nephew Jason Pogrant and niece Jennifer Pogrant.

A Memorial Service for Roger is being planned for May 2024.
