Stevens Point seeks downtown development proposals

Posted

STEVENS POINT – The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Stevens Point and the City of Stevens Point have approved and announced a request for development proposals for a portion of the former Shopko parking lot. The request for proposals (RFP) will be ongoing until a successful proposal and negotiation are completed. All details on the proposal are available online at https://stevenspoint.com/586/Development-Opportunities.

In May of 2024, many City commissions and the Common Council approved of a targeted area master plan for Downtown Stevens Point which was amended last month. Among the amendments were a change in location of the bus transfer center and expansion of the green space in its former location. City staff are continuing to make progress on the plan, gathering public input regarding the design and features of all public areas on the former Shopko block. The public survey for this portion of the plan is still available online.

“We have heard from many residents regarding their concerns with the redevelopment of block, the top few being the availability of parking, affordable housing and our homeless population, and the efficiency of our public transportation,” says Mayor Wiza. “I would like to assure our residents that our City staff are taking these concerns into consideration when reviewing development proposals and eventually bring forward a proposal for the City to review.”

Developers interested in submitting a proposal may email Jarod Kivela, Director of Community Development, at jkivela@stevenspoint.com and Christopher Klesmith, Neighborhood Planner and Economic Development Specialist, at cklesmith@stevenspoint.com to discuss the development of the site.
