Strange case of the misnamed park

WEYAUWEGA – In a previous issue, the park in Weyauwega that is home to the landmark silo and local fishing spot was mistakenly referred to as Stevenson Park. It is Peterson Park. The reason for the mistake is that on Google Maps the park is denoted as Stevenson Park.
Mary Jane Baehman of the Weyauwega Area Historical Society said she does not recall any figure in the community’s history that has the name of Stevenson. Where the name Stevenson comes from is a mystery.
As data is vacuumed online by bots and artificial intelligence, this misnomer has spread into some mapping apps and websites that are used for bird watching, walking, real estate listings and travel.
