Iola-Scandinavia wins CWC-East opener

The first Central Wisconsin Conference-East meeting of the season between the Iola-Scandinavia and Manawa girls’ basketball teams went down to the wire.

Manawa outscored the Thunderbirds by two points in the second half Dec. 2, but ended up on the short end of a 49-46 score at Iola-Scandinavia High School.

The T-Birds outscored the Wolves 24-19 in the first half.

Manawa eventually took the lead in the second half before Iola-Scandinavia tied the game at 45-45 with 3:02 remaining.

Jaelyn Sivertson and Madeline Much led the T-Birds with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Manawa also had a pair of players in double figures. Lexi Hedtke led the Wolves with 13 points and Cassie Arndt added 12.

Both teams have CWC-East games scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 8. The T-Birds will head to Keshena to face Menominee Indian, while the Wolves will host Weyauwega-Fremont at 7:15 p.m.
