Iola-Scandinavia wins CWC-Small opener

One week after being shut out by Edgar, the Iola-Scandinavia football team opened Central Wisconsin Conference-Small play Sept. 10 at Thunderbird Field with a 42-0 win over Loyal.

Isaiah Hoyord had three rushing touchdowns and Parker Prahl added three scoring passes, including two to Will Tappa in the first quarter.

Prahl and Tappa connected on passes of 50 and 6 yards to give the Thunderbirds a 14-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

The T-Birds added to their lead with three scores before halftime, including Prahl’s 30-yard pass to Jayden Singh and Hoyord’s runs of 11 and 5 yards.

Hoyord capped his three-touchdown night with a 2-yard run in the third quarter.

The T-Birds outgained the Greyhounds 409-103. Hoyord accounted for 191 of his team’s 323 rushing yards on 16 carries. Prahl completed three of five passes for 86 yards, with each completion going for a touchdown.

The T-Birds improved to 1-0 in CWC-Small play and 2-2 overall and will head to Wisconsin Rapids to face Assumption Friday, Sept. 17. Kickoff at South Wood County 2000 Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
