No comeback for Indians in rematch
By Greg Seubert
The teams were the same, but the result was different.
The Iola-Scandinavia baseball team dropped a 9-8 decision to Weyauwega-Fremont earlier this season after taking an 8-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Thunderbirds had an 8-0 lead May 6 in the rematch, but there would be no W-F comeback, as the Indians fell 10-0 in five innings.
W-F left the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, but I-S came up with a run in the bottom of the frame on Jayden Sivertson’s RBI single that scored Nate Korb.
The T-Birds added to their lead with two more runs in the second. Brady Snyder scored on an error and Steve Niemi scored later to give the home team a 3-0 advantage.
The Indians stranded two more runners in the third, but the T-Birds came up with another run on Niemi’s RBI single that scored Sivertson.
I-S tacked on four more runs in the fourth on Sivertson’s two-run double and RBI singles from Niemi and Scott Aasen.
Winning pitcher Seth Korb retired the Indians in the top of the fifth and the game ended in the bottom of the inning on RBI hits from Nate Korb and Cam Gruenwald.
