On March 21, Clintonville Police Officers Gene Meyer and Dennis Schroeder were called out to a home on Waupaca Street. The resident told officers that he came home to find that the back door had been kicked open. Police found a large shoe print on the back door. Bessette was named as a possible suspect because he and a 16-year-old boy had visited the home the prior day.
When the 16-year-old was taken into custody, Meyer observed that his footprint was similar to that found on the door, according to the criminal complaint.
Bessette reportedly told police that he and the 16-year-old had been at the home when they saw a blue and white glass pot pipe and decided to take it because they did not believe anyone would report stolen drug paraphernalia.
