The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds started strong against the Hilbert Wolves on Oct.25  in Level 1 of the WIAA football playoffs before the Wolves went on a comeback to eliminate the Thunderbirds from the postseason.

The opening possession for the Thunderbirds, the offense struck quickly as running back Billy Myers took a carry 51 yards to the house to put his team up 7-0 early.

On the Thunderbirds’ next series, they went up 14-0 as quarterback Jensen Rice found a receiver in the end zone to give his team the two-score lead.

The Wolves cut into the Thunderbirds’ lead. They used the ground game to set up a three-yard rushing touchdown, making it a 14-7 deficit.

The Wolves became comfortable moving the ball down the field on the Thunderbirds’ defense, setting up a one-yard goal-line touchdown to make the score 14-14.

In the fourth quarter, the Wolves took the lead 22-14 after another goal-line score and a successful two-point conversion made it 22-14.

In the final minute, the Wolves capped off the win with a two-yard touchdown run by Brody Hein to make it a final score of 28-14 and help them move to Level 2 of the playoffs.

The Thunderbirds finished the 2024 season at 6-4.
