Two boys’ basketball teams with back-to-back losses met on Jan. 30 in Weyauwega.

Weyauwega-Fremont hosted Iola-Scandinavia in a matchup of Central Wisconsin Conference-East teams but ended up on the short end of a 71-61 final score.

Iola-Scandinavia never trailed in the game and built a 20-4 lead in the first half.

The Warhawks chipped away at the lead, and Bryce Magdanz’s buzzer-beating three-pointer cut the deficit to 30-23.

The Thunderbirds opened the second half with an 8-3 run to go up 38-26. The Warhawks answered by scoring eight consecutive points to cut the lead to three but never got any closer.

Each team had three players score in double figures. Ethan Koplien led the Warhawks, and all players scored 18 points, while teammates Kam Zielke and Broc Billington scored 13 and 10, respectively.

Korz Loken led the Thunderbirds with 17 points. Alex Robbins scored 12 points in the second half and finished with 16, while Landan Fuhs scored 10.
