Iola Mills will host its first Snapping Turtle Adventure Triathlon Saturday, Sept. 9.
The event will begin at noon and include a 2-mile run at the Iola Winter Sports Club, followed by a 7-mile bike ride to Iola Mills and a 2-mile paddle down the South Branch of the Little Wolf River.
A $30 registration fee is required and the triathlon is open to individuals and relay teams.
Participants can register online at iolamills.com.
“This will promote silent sports, the great outdoors and all the opportunities that Waupaca County has to offer, including the Iola Winter Sports Club, bicycle riding routes and paddling opportunities,” Iola Mills owner Ed Lemar said.
The event got its name because snapping turtles laid eggs at Iola Mills in June.
“The snapping turtles will likely be hatching during the triathlon and that is why it is called the Snapping Turtle,” Lemar said.
