Posted

Time is running out for the Clintonville boys’ basketball team if the Truckers want to pick up a second win of the season.

Waupaca handed the Truckers a 47-34 loss on Feb. 7. The win, the Comets’ third North Eastern Conference victory in a row following wins over Denmark and Marinette, gives Waupaca a 9-9 overall mark and an 8-6 conference mark. Clintonville fell to 1-12 in the conference and 1-17 overall.

Sam Wegener scored nine of Clintonville’s first 12 points, helping the Truckers take a 14-10 lead early in the first half.

Austin Adamczak’s basket gave Waupaca a 17-16 lead minutes later and started a 9-0 run. The Comets never trailed again.

Waupaca led 24-18 at halftime. Maxwell Young’s three-pointer cut the Comets’ lead to 28-25 early in the second half, but Waupaca scored nine consecutive points to push the lead back to 12. The Truckers never got any closer than 10 points.

Only two players finished the game in double figures. Wegener led all players with 15 points, and Aaron Wolff led Waupaca with 14.

Ethan Harms, Kanye Bessman, and Adamczak added nine each for Waupaca, and Young scored nine for the Truckers.
