Engineering needed for dam embankment repair

Posted

CLINTONVILLE – The city of Clintonville will spend $1,980 to have Kunkel Engineering prepare a dam embankment repair submittal engineering service proposal.
The Clintonville Common Council approved the expenditure at its July 14 meeting, with the funds coming from the city’s capital funds.
Clintonville Public Works Director Justin Mc Auly said the engineering service proposal would include a plan of action and a report to be submitted to the DNR. The city would then need to follow through with the plan of action to fix the issue. This could include removing the larger rocks that are there and then creating a new slope. An erosion mat would be placed, and the rocks put back in place. Additional rocks may be needed in that area. Mc Auly said he did not know how much it would cost for the city to complete the plan of action.
Mc Auly said that during the flooding in April, there were some washout areas in the embankment near the dam in the city. He said after the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) inspected the site and the city was informed that an engineer would have to develop a “plan of action and file a report to the DNR.”
If a major issue was found, Mc Auly said the city would have to have an engineer develop a solution and receive approval from the DNR to fix the issue.
“But the engineer deemed that it was more or less maintenance,” Mc Auly said.
At the July 13 Clintonville Finance & Personnel Committee meeting, Mc Auly said, “If it continues to washout, we’d probably lose the paved area, and then eventually it could breech if we have anymore future floods.”
