By Greg Seubert
A five-run fourth inning helped the Weyauwega-Fremont softball team open its season March 22 with a 6-2 win over New London.
The Indians broke the scoreless tie in the fourth on RBI singles from Hailey Krause and Kaitlyn Hickey. Anna Duxbury added a two-run single to give the home team a 4-0 advantage.
W-F added to its lead on Jordan Rucks’ run-scoring single in the fifth.
New London scored both of its runs in the top of the seventh.
Kiley Akey pitched five innings to get the win on the mound, while Cadyn Ehrenberg struck out four of the six batters she faced in the last two innings to get credit for the save.
The Indians are scheduled to face Adams-Friendship at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 28, while the Bulldogs’ next scheduled game is at Freedom Tuesday, April 5.
