Warhawks complete sweep of Wolves

Posted

Weyauwega-Fremont handed Manawa a 59-42 loss last month in a matchup of Central Wisconsin Conference-East girls’ basketball teams in Oshkosh.

The rematch had almost the same result, as the Warhawks completed a sweep of the Wolves on Feb. 6 with a 49-31 win at Little Wolf High School.

A slow start hurt Manawa, as Weyauwega-Fremont built a 27-5 lead with just under 3 1/2 minutes to go in the first half. Manawa was able to cut into the lead but still headed to the locker room down 29-12.

The Wolves used a 7-0 run to cut the Warhawks’ lead to nine points with just under 12 minutes to play but never got closer.

Avery Samz scored all 11 points in the first half for the Warhawks and was the only player to finish in double figures.

Olivia Tomko-Santos and Lilian Klatt led the Wolves with six points each. Weyauwega-Fremont improved to 7-5 in conference play and 9-10 overall, while Manawa fell to 2-10 and 7-13, respectively.
