A cold night of shooting hurt the Weyauwega-Fremont girls’ basketball team in a loss to Almond-Bancroft.

The Warhawks made only six shots – including one in the first half – Nov. 20 in a 44-22 loss to the Eagles at Weyauwega-Fremont High School.

Hannah Pantzlaff’s four free throws in the opening minutes gave Weyauwega-Fremont an early 4-0 lead, but the Warhawks didn’t make a shot until Olivia Witkowski scored with 4:18 remaining in the first half that cut Almond-Bancroft’s lead to 13-6.

The Eagles led 17-7 at halftime.

Witkowski scored on the Warhawks’ first possession of the second half, but Weyauwega-Fremont never got any closer the rest of the game.

A three-pointer from Brooklyn Buss cut the Eagles’ lead to 26-15, but Almond-Bancroft used a 14-2 run that included eight points from Aaliyah Newby to go up 40-17.

Witkowski led the Warhawks with six points, while Newby led all players with 20.
