Warhawks soar over Hornets

Posted

As cold as it was outside, it was also frigid inside Weyauwega-Fremont High School’s gym.

Weyauwega-Fremont held Rosholt to fewer than 20 points in each half and the Warhawks cruised to a 56-34 boys’ basketball win over the Hornets Jan. 20.

The Warhawks never trailed in the game and sealed the win with a 16-0 run in the second half after the Hornets had cut the deficit to six points.

Rosholt trailed by 11 points in the first half and headed to the locker room at halftime down 25-18.

A pair of Marcus Kohl baskets cut the Warhawks’ lead to 28-22 early in the second half, but the Hornets never got any closer. The Warhawks scored the game’s next 16 points to push the lead to 44-22. Dylan DeLaet’s two free throws ended Weyauwega-Fremont’s run, but Rosholt never got any closer than 15 points.

Ethan Koplien led three Warhawks in double figures with a game-high 13 points. Broc Billington and Kam Zielke added 11 and 10, respectively.
Kohl led Rosholt with 12 points.
