Warhawks weather the storm on the road

Posted

Despite an early-season weather delay, the Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks took down the Spencer/Columbus Catholic Rockets on the road.

A nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carter Birdyshaw gave Weyauwega-Fremont the early 7-0 lead.

Building on their lead, the Warhawks made it 14-0 with a 36-yard touchdown on an end-around by Broc Billington.

In response, Spencer/Columbus Catholic tight end Sam Helgestad picked up a backwards pass and powered through defenders for a touchdown, narrowing the Warhawks’ advantage to 14-6.

The Rockets continued their push, adding a field goal to make it a 14-9 game.

A four-yard touchdown run gave the Rockets a 15-14 lead in the fourth quarter.

The Warhawks went down the field, and Birdyshaw used his legs to improvise as he scored from 10 yards out on a scramble to give his team the lead back and found an open receiver for a successful two-point conversion and a 22-15 lead.

The Warhawks closed out the victory with a seven-yard touchdown run by running back Dawson Lind that gave them a 29-15 win.
