The season got off on the right foot for the Weyauwega-Fremont and Manawa football teams with nonconference wins Aug. 18.
Weyauwega-Fremont handed Belleville a 37-28 loss in Weyauwega, while the Wolves hit the road and knocked off Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 42-7.
Kameron Zielke completed 21 of 28 passes for 241 yards and led the Warhawks with 91 rushing yards.
Zielke’s 6-yard touchdown run gave the home team a 7-0 lead heading into the second quarter. The Warhawks found the end zone three more times in the second quarter on Chris Gunst’s 16-yard interception return and Zielke’s scoring passes of 39 yards to Hunter Meisenhelder and 36 yards to Brayden Arndt.
Weyauwega-Fremont added to its 28-7 halftime lead in the third quarter on Meisenhelder’s 36-yard touchdown pass to Gunst.
Belleville scored one touchdown in the second and fourth quarters and two in the third.
Weyauwega-Fremont’s final two points came on a safety in the fourth quarter.
The Warhawks outgained the Wildcats 411-338. Weyauwega-Fremont had a 277-182 advantage in passing yards, while Belleville outgained the Warhawks 156-134 on the ground.

The Wolves scored all six of their touchdowns in the first half.
Dakota Stroud opened the scoring with a 1-yard run and added touchdown passes later in the first quarter of 17 and 12 yards to Nathan Gorman.
The Bulldogs’ touchdown came in the second quarter on Wylee Huset’s 2-yard touchdown, but the Wolves responded with three scores before halftime.
Patrick Paque returned a fumble 60 yards and Stroud added touchdown passes of 63 yards to Spencer Strebe and 44 yards to Thomas Bartelt.
Stroud completed 12 of 19 passes for 248 yards and four touchdowns and also led the Wolves with 23 rushing yards.
