A new reporter has joined the staff at the Waupaca County Post.
Emily Conroy will cover the Iola, Scandinavia and Manawa areas.
Born and raised in Eau Claire, Conroy attended the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley for two years, then transferred to UW-Eau Claire, where she graduated with a major in political science and a minor in print journalism.
While at UW-Fox Valley, she was the editor of the student paper. She was also a copy editor and reporter for the paper at UW-Eau Claire.
Conroy moved to the Manawa area in 2010. In 2011, she worked for the Manawa Messenger, then worked for the Clintonville Chronicle the following year.
Her husband’s family owned and operated Bear Lake Campground for more than a century until they sold the property in 2023.
“It got so busy I couldn’t work a second job anymore,” Conroy said regarding her decision to leave journalism for a while.
Since April 2023, Conroy has been working as a bartender at the Wheelhouse on the Chain O’ Lakes.
“I really enjoy writing,” Conroy said. “I like meeting new people.”
Although she has since moved to Waupaca, Conroy still has ties to the areas where she’ll be covering the news.
One of her goals as a journalist is to ensure her coverage of a story is comprehensive.
“I try to have all the information, making sure everything is complete,” Conroy said.
