Waupaca Curling Club hosts tour

Posted

The Waupaca Curling Club is building up layer after layer of ice for a showdown against a team of visiting Canadians.

The curling match will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11. Four teams will play at once and each match lasts about two hours.

This is one stop on the CANAM Cup tour and the tour alternates between countries every five years. The public is welcome to attend and watch this once-per-decade sporting event. In 2019, the US team traveled throughout Canada and won the tour, scoring 623 to Canada’s 613.

This year the Canadian team (made up of 20 curlers from across Canada) is traveling through Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan for three weeks to play for the CANAM Cup. The Cup is an antique sterling silver bowl that is a traveling trophy and is engraved with the winning team’s name and country.

After the match the Waupaca Curling Club will host a lunch and the Canadian team will head to Madison. Their tour will end on Nov. 20 at the Detroit Curling Club. They will play a total of 107 games at 28 curling clubs.
