Waupaca defeats New London in chilly season opener

During a cold and blustery season opener, the Waupaca Comets got their first win at home against the New London Bulldogs.

Ethan Harms drove in two runs in the first inning to give Waupaca the lead.

Carson Jameson’s base hit brought in Jay Card for a score to give the Comets a three-run lead.

Harms came across to score to give Waupaca another score in the first inning to give them the 4-0 lead going into the second.

Max Dolski hit a double in the third inning to bring Aaron Wolff home as the Comets went up 5-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, New London put their first run on the board as Logan Ten Hakken scored a run to make the deficit 5-1.

In the fourth inning, Cael Prey hit a double to make it 6-1 for Waupaca as Max Olson came in to score.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jay Card had a base hit to bring in a run to give the Comets a 7-1 lead.

The Bulldogs began to rally in the top of the sixth, the bases were loaded, and a walk gave New London a run on the board.

A single by Tommy Fields made the deficit for New London 7-3, and another walk with bases loaded cut the score to 7-4.

A base hit by Brayden Dorsey and a hit to third base by Parker Heise drove in two runs as they cut the Waupaca lead to 7-6.

In the seventh inning, Waupaca made the deficit 8-6 as Cory Ellenich had an RBI to give the Comets some much-needed breathing room on the scoreboard.

Down two runs, the Bulldogs continued to fight back as Dane Meyer drove in Brett Marquardt to give New London their seventh and final run as Waupaca won the season opener 8-7.
