Comets defeat Denmark, St. Mary Catholic

The Waupaca boys’ soccer team has put up some big numbers lately.
Big as in 25 goals in two wins over Denmark and St. Mary Catholic.
The Comets improved to 1-1 in the North Central Conference Sept. 10 with a 13-3 win over Denmark. Waupaca also picked up a 12-3 win Sept. 8 over St. Mary Catholic.

DENMARK – Luis Jorgensen and Seth Boldt led the Comets with four and three goals, respectively.

WAUPACA – Jordan Lacey gave the Zephyrs a 2-0 lead with goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, but St. Mary Catholic managed only one goal the rest of the way.
Boldt scored twice in the first half, including once on a penalty kick, and Jorgensen and Evan Bolwerk also found the net before halftime to give Waupaca a 4-2 lead at the break.
Boldt added three more goals in the second half, while Jorgensen scored twice and Ian Vierck and Luke Wanty added solo goals.
Waupaca outshot the Zephyrs 24-10 and Comet goalkeepers Bailey Colden and Micah Meza combined for seven saves.
The Comets hosted Wrightstown Sept. 15 and will head to Seymour for a 7 p.m. nonconference matchup Thursday, Sept. 17, with the Thunder. Waupaca will also host Mosinee at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, before hosting Amherst, Sheboygan Falls and New London for a quadrangular at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26.
